Elhamra Terminal
Storage Facilities
The facility includes eight (8) crude oil storage tanks with a total capacity of 2.76 million barrels (MMBBLS), comprising:
- Six (6) tanks, each with a capacity of 250,000 barrels
- Two (2) tanks, each with a capacity of 630,000 barrels
These tanks are connected to a new oil manifold, commissioned in 2018, to accommodate future expansion and replace the legacy system that had been in service since 1968.

New Crude Oil Storage Tank 7&8
Two new crude oil storage tanks, each with a capacity of 630,000 barrels, have been constructed to expand El-Hamra Terminal’s total storage capacity to 2.76 million barrels (MMBBL). This expansion enhances the terminal’s ability to receive and accommodate crude oil from the Western Desert.
- Tank#7 in service since April 2022.
- Tank#8 in service since April 2023.
Automatic Control System “DCS”
Digital Transformation at El-Hamra Terminal
As part of WEPCO’s digital transformation strategy, all operational facilities at El-Hamra Terminal were fully automated and modernized in March 2022, replacing the manual systems in use since 1968. The upgrade includes the integration of advanced technologies such as:
- Distributed control system “DCS”.
- Emergency shutdown system “ESD”.
- Radar tank gauging system “RTG”.
- Custody Transfer-Certified Measurement Systems
- Terminal Management System, integrated with the Ministry of Petroleum’s central dashboard.
CRUDE OIL MARINE SHIPPING SYSTEMS
- Diesel Pump Station
- The existing station includes two diesel-engine shipping pumps, with a combined capacity of 0.5 million barrels per day (MMBBLS/day), in service since 2014
- Diesel Pump Station
- New Pumping Station
To enhance El-Hamra Terminal’s export capacity, a new pumping station comprising six electrically driven pumps has been commissioned. This upgrade supports increased shipping capabilities of up to 1 million barrels per day (MMBBL/day) through the new Single Point Mooring (SPM) system and the new 36-inch subsea cargo line, inaugurated in August 2023.
